Ethan's actions
Coastal, Ocean, and Engineered Sinks
Smart Seafood Choices
Ocean Farming
I will visit seafoodwatch.org and download the app to commit to making better seafood choices for a healthier ocean.
Coastal, Ocean, and Engineered Sinks
Visit the Coast
Macroalgae Protection and Restoration
I will visit a coastal or ocean site to experience the ecosystem and look for the presence of macroalgae/seaweed.
Industry
Practice the 5 Rs
Recycling
I will practice the "5 Rs" — refuse, reduce, reuse, repurpose, and recycle — to reduce my waste more than I can with just recycling alone.
Industry
Recycle Everything I Can
Recycling; Recycled Metals; Recycled Plastics
Contamination prevents what is recyclable from being recycled. I will research and recycle all materials that are accepted by local haulers or drop stations in my community, including electronics and metals.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustry Recycle Everything I CanHow could you incorporate other "Rs" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle? How does considering implementing these "Rs" make you feel?
Ethan Weiske 10/16/2024 7:48 PMI learned more about the process of recycling and how to recycle properly. For our local recycling, we are supposed to wash out our recycling and dry it before putting it into the bin. I also learned that unfortunately a lot of what we recycle does not actually end up being recycled. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCoastal, Ocean, and Engineered Sinks Visit the CoastWhat coastal site did you visit and what did you learn while there?
Ethan Weiske 10/10/2024 10:42 AMI went to Fort Ord Dunes State Park Beach with a friend for a couple of hours and saw that the water was full of seaweed and algae. Also saw Dolphins, Brown Pelicans, an Otter, and plenty of other seabirds. There were few people there and a lot of wildlife. it was a nice change of pace from my usual days and seeing all the wildlife while sitting in the sun felt rejuvenating.-
Kristen Ishee 10/10/2024 10:53 AMwow! Sound like a great beach trip!

REFLECTION QUESTIONCoastal, Ocean, and Engineered Sinks Smart Seafood ChoicesMany states and countries have advisories on eating fish. Find out what is advised for your region. Do you think your diet choices fall within these guidelines? What steps do you need to take to make sure that they do?
Ethan Weiske 10/10/2024 10:31 AMI grew up going to the Monterey Bay Aquarium and seeing the seafood watch program. It was interesting to learn more about it and use the app to ensure I'm not supporting fishing malpractices.

REFLECTION QUESTIONIndustry Practice the 5 RsWhat are some more "Rs" you could add to your daily practice to reduce your waste?
Ethan Weiske 10/08/2024 10:21 AMI went through a jar of parmesan and used the cap as a water basin for my plant pots. Caps of containers work quite well for catching water from my nursery pots so I will be looking out for any others I can use. I also used the glass containers from a Costco desert pack to hold some plant propagations.
