REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricityGeothermal energy is reliable, abundant, and efficient. Project Drawdown states that public investment will play a crucial role in its expansion. In what ways (i.e. with money, time, advocacy) can you invest in geothermal energy?
Thomas Secretarski 5/22/2024 6:35 AMA certain amount of the investment should be funded by tax money, but some should be fundraised for and petitioned for. I think that we should convince people to want this change, rather than forcing it upon them. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricityHad you ever heard of biomass technology before you took this challenge? What did you learn that surprised you? Share your new knowledge with your friends!
Thomas Secretarski 5/16/2024 6:33 AMI have seen biomass options at gas stations, such as ethanol gas, but I had never known that it was really made directly from renewable, agricultural sources. I am surprised to learn that we have a cheap and better way to produce energy for our cars. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricityMicro turbines can be placed on large structures to take advantage of stronger, steadier breezes. The Eiffel Tower now sports vertical axis turbines that produce electricity for use on site. Where could micro turbines potentially be installed in your city?
Thomas Secretarski 5/15/2024 6:36 AMWe could use microturbines at schools, installing them on rooftops of main buildings. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand SinksMuch of Indonesia's peatlands have been drained so they could be replaced with palm oil or pulp and paper plantations. How can you make choices that help to protect peatlands, even if you live far away from one?
Thomas Secretarski 4/30/2024 6:14 AMYou can boycott purchase from the plantations that replaced the peatlands, using your money as a protest to protect the peatlands. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportationWhat have you noticed on your daily walks? What have you enjoyed? What infrastructure changes could make your walks more enjoyable or possible?
Thomas Secretarski 4/26/2024 5:36 AMI enjoy walking but I like to have music in my ear while I walk, I feel like that helps me enjoy the surroundings even more. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land UseMindful eating is healthier for us than eating with distractions. How does your eating experience differ when practicing mindfulness?
Thomas Secretarski 4/24/2024 5:44 AMI recognized how my experience while eating increased, I talked to my mom while eating, and I realized that I was able to really enjoy my food.
