Marco's actions

Industry

Recycle Everything I Can

Recycling; Recycled Metals; Recycled Plastics

Contamination prevents what is recyclable from being recycled. I will research and recycle all materials that are accepted by local haulers or drop stations in my community, including electronics and metals.

Industry

Practice the 5 Rs

Recycling

I will practice the "5 Rs" — refuse, reduce, reuse, repurpose, and recycle — to reduce my waste more than I can with just recycling alone.

COMPLETED 5
DAILY ACTIONS

Food, Agriculture, and Land Use

Reduce Food Waste

Reduced Food Waste

I will keep a daily log of food I throw away during Drawdown Ecochallenge, either because it went bad before I ate it, I put too much on my plate, or it was scraps from food preparation, and commit to reducing my food waste throughout the challenge.

Rethink my habits, purchases, and consumption patterns to make more eco-friendly choices.
Choose refillable products over disposable ones.

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Industry Recycle Everything I Can
How could you incorporate other "Rs" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle? How does considering implementing these "Rs" make you feel?

Cut back on things you don't need, like single-use plastics, excessive packaging, or unnecessary purchases. Reuse items that aren't necessary or that are damaging to the environment. Implementing these Rs often makes me feel more mindful, and connected to the environment and their communities. It also fostered a sense of pride in living more consciously.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food, Agriculture, and Land Use Reduce Food Waste
An average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Where would you rather use this money?

I would use that money towards emergency funds
