REFLECTION QUESTIONBuildings Learn about the Legacy of RedliningHow does city planning and design relate to equity and climate change?
Elina Boss 10/28/2024 11:07 AMcity planning in 1900's was racially motivated to make communities of color not as livable. Communities of color are more likely to have fewer trees, meaning warmer streets. Communities of color are often areas in which large landfills, manufactories, and factories are built, releasing toxic gas into these communities.-
Gianni Juarez 10/29/2024 12:06 PMHopefully moving forward I hope we can plan better to prevent these issues from occurring. Or perhaps we can implement solutions to combat these problems. For instance, urban gardens are a possible solution and would be a very cool thing to see within cities; which would help combat the lack of trees.

REFLECTION QUESTIONBuildings Install a Low-Flow ShowerheadWhat would a sustainable water future in your region look like? What needs to change?
Elina Boss 10/28/2024 11:00 AMsustainable water usage in my area can convert the grey water we use in our homes to water our lawns or be recycled to water community gardens. We would also need to use soap that is good for the environment but that change will also help the local environment due to the water going into the waterways in our neighborhood, affecting local fauna and flora. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand Sinks Explore My AreaHow can spending more time outdoors enhance your sense of place -- your deep knowledge of and appreciation for your surroundings?
Elina Boss 10/28/2024 10:41 AMspending time outside allows an opportunity to appreciate the land as it was before construction. It provides at outlet to calm down during the busy schedule that we must maintain to participate in the fast-pace capitalist society we live in -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand Sinks Buy BambooAre bamboo alternatives readily available in your community? If not, what are other sustainable alternatives?
Elina Boss 10/28/2024 10:38 AMBamboo options are provided through large chain stores such as Target but not in local, community stores. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth and Education Share to Social Media: Health and EducationHave you been sharing what you learned throughout Drawdown Ecochallenge? How have people responded?
Elina Boss 10/21/2024 4:20 PMFriends and Families have responded positively to the post as well as resharing some of the information I'm posting. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity Learn More about Wave and Tidal EnergyWhat did you learn about wave and tidal energy? How do they compare to other energy sources?
Elina Boss 10/17/2024 10:11 AMEnergy is harvested through the motion of the waves and in tidal streams. The US is hesitant due to investors not knowing if it will bring enough revenue. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land Use Zero-Waste CookingIn North America, up to 65% of food waste happens at the consumer level. Chef Steven Satterfield advocates for utilizing every part of a vegetable. How can you incorporate using an entire vegetable, including the skins, tops, and stalks during your next meal prep?
Elina Boss 10/16/2024 5:16 PMsave them, freeze them, and use the scraps for vegetable or meat broth. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity Spread the Word about Energy AlternativesWhat inspiration and wisdom can you gather from your family, faith, or community traditions that would help you in both communicating about and addressing our most pressing energy issues?
-
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood, Agriculture, and Land Use Reduce Food WasteAn average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Where would you rather use this money?
Elina Boss 10/16/2024 5:12 PMIf I had the $1,500 from being more cautious about food waste I would put the money back to school loans. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth and Education Support Businesses Owned by Women, POC, or ImmigrantsWhich businesses that you researched are you excited to support? Are you already supporting businesses that you didn't know were owned by women, people of color, or immigrants?
Elina Boss 10/16/2024 4:03 PMIt was exciting getting out and finding a small community business run by BIPOC. I learned that people of color own many small businesses I already go to. People of color and women own many restaurants I go to regularly. Immigrant people own my favorite restaurant in town.
